Hounds on the Hill @ Bradley Lake Park Puyallup

It’s a dog-filled day at Bradley Lake Park, Puyallup, on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

Leave your work at home and help us turn the park over to dogs and their owners for the day.

This community event is sure to be filled with fun for the whole family – and it’s for a good cause! Family members will have a great time letting their dogs romp around South Hill (on leashes of course!).

The 2-mile walk will head out at 9:30 a.m. from the picnic area at Puyallup’s Bradley Lake Park, continue around the park, and wrap back twice to the picnic area. Then spend the day watching (and playing in) fun dog activities and visiting vendors.

We are currently accepting applications for Vendors for the 2018 Hounds on the Hill Dog Walk and Street Fair. Booth spaces are available in two sizes: 10′ x 20′ space for $75 and a 10′ x 10′ space for $55. Non profit booth spaces (10′ x 10′) are available for $25.

Application deadline is August 14, 2019.

Free Little Library Unveiling Event, Puyallup Sunrise Village

We are excited to unveil the free little library brought to Sunrise Village by Cub Scout Pack 552 and the Puyallup-South Hill Rotary.

Join the Puyallup Sumner Chamber at 6pm for the library ribbon-cutting AND bring the family and friends to dinner at The RAM- Sunrise Village. The money raised at the Ram from 4 – 11pm (mention the fundraiser!) will be donated to Cub Scout Pack 552 for maintaining the library.

Who We Are

Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.

Through Little Free Libraries, millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds.

How Does It Work

A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. They come in many shapes and sizes, but the most common version is a small wooden box of books. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share. Little Free Library book exchanges have a unique, personal touch. There is an understanding that real people are sharing their favorite books with their community; Little Libraries have been called “mini-town squares.”

Why Does Book Access Matter?

Academically, children growing up in homes without books are on average three years behind children in homes with lots of books, even when controlled for other key factors. (M.D.R Evans et al, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, June 2010)

One of the most successful ways to improve the reading achievement of children is to increase their access to books, especially at home. But 61% of low-income families do not have any age-appropriate books for their kids at home.

Little Free Libraries play an essential role by providing 24/7 access to books (and encouraging a love of reading!) in areas where books are scarce

Gold and Silver Raffle & Gala Fundraiser @ Pioneer Park Pavilion

The Gala

The annual Gold and Silver Raffle and Gala fundraiser will be held Friday, February 28, 2020. It’s a ‘reverse raffle’, meaning the last ticket drawn will win $9,000 in silver and gold coin/bullion. Tickets are $50 each and allow one entry to the event, which also features food and desserts from local restaurants and some fun games and other raffle prizes.

Proceeds Go To:

Proceeds help us feed and house the homeless and provide scholarships to local high school and community college students. It also allows us to give gifts for kids at Christmas, books for local libraries, support for international projects, and much much more.

$50 Ticket Includes:
Entry for one to the Gala, dinner, no host bar, and other fun.

Ticket sales close at 6pm on the day of the event.

The event will feature a reading, children’s activities, and lots of fun. We are asking folks to come dressed as their favorite bug…prize for the best costume! We also have some bug antennae headbands and copies of the book to distribute (until we run out).
